Wednesday deadline approaches for families

Just a friendly reminder that families have until Wednesday (31 March 2021) to confirm their 2018–19 income with Services Australia or lose their Child Care Subsidy (CCS).

To confirm their 2018–19 income for the purposes of balancing, families need to:

  • lodge their tax return, or
  • tell Services Australia they don’t need to lodge a tax return. Families can do this using their Centrelink online account through myGov or the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.

Broadly speaking, if you are self employed or a small business owner it is important that you do your homework to understand the various obligations you have when it comes to super. Can you direct your employees to get vaccinated?

As anticipation builds for the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines in Australia, employers are starting to query whether they can direct their employees to be vaccinated.

Below is an article produced by the Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors (ABLA), which discusses the legal considerations surrounding this issue for employers, including the early learning sector.

So, surely you can make all your employees get vaccinated?
The simple answer is likely to be “not generally” (although this is yet to be tested in Courts).

However, for some employers dealing with vulnerable people, the answer is more likely to be “yes” for most of their employees.
